Vote Yes on Amendment 51 to End the Waitlist

If you know someone who is waiting for developmental disability services, spread the word about Amendment 51. The Colorado Coalition to End the Waitlist includes ARC of Colorado, Denver Options and all other Colorado CCBs, Parent to Parent, ARC Thrift Stores, the Autism Society of Colorado, Cerebral Palsy of Colorado, Parents of Adults with Disabilities in Colorado and other local organizations.

Amendment 51 will help thousands of people. This phased-in sales tax of 2 cents on $10 will allow the more than 12,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities on the waitlist to finally receive services. Many people need help to eat, dress, and bathe, while others need constant supervision because of major medical issues and lack of basic life and safety skills. The money collected through Amendment 51 will go directly towards services that families need now and will need in the future.

With new funding, we can immediately provide a safety net for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Raising taxes is never easy, but the state budget is so tight there is no other way to provide the critical services so desperately needed.

Along with organizations that range from parent groups and advocates to providers who have endorsed this effort, you, too, can ensure a safety net for people with developmental disabilities. Colorado needs $180 to $195 million every year to eliminate the waiting list and keep it from coming back. Your vote to support two cents on every $10 of spending can create that critical funding.

If you would like to volunteer your time to this effort, please call Marijo Rymer, Arc of Colorado, at (303) 864-9334.
