Frequently Asked Questions
If I am interested in becoming a provider, what is involved?
Denver Options offers four different types of contracts. Please find descriptions of each type of contract and the various requirements:
- Family Contract: Contract extended to family members of clients to provide services such as supervision/respite, Community Access and Household Services. Requirements include a signed contract, photo identification, W9 and insurance waivers.
- Independent Contract: Intended for a single provider with no employees providing services (Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapist, Massage Therapist) to work with our customers. Contracts requirements include a signed contract, W9, proof of liability insurance, photo identification, trade name registration if applicable, background check, First Aid/CPR, training on confidentiality/abuse/neglect/incident reporting and a minimum of one year of experience working with the target population and proof of licensure if applicable.
- Generic Contract: Intended for businesses with more than one employee providing services to the general population in addition to individuals with developmental disabilities. Requirements include signed contract, W9, articles of incorporation, hiring policies and proof of insurance.
- Service Agency Contracts: All program approval (for new agencies) or program expansion (for existing program approved service agencies) is completed through the Division for Developmental Disabilities (http://www.cdhs.state.co.us/ddd or candie.dalton@state.co.us). Agencies seeking program approval must also apply for a Medicaid number through the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (http://www.colorado.gov/hcpf).
Agencies with program approval may bill directly to the State or may bill through Denver Options. Agencies that wish to bill through Denver Options need to submit background and insurance information and attend an orientation before a contract is established. This process can take up to 60 days - therefore prospective agencies should start the process at least 60 days prior to the date they wish to begin providing services. For information on what is needed to establish a contract, please contact Karen Harvey at 303-636-5890 or at kharvey@denveroptions.org.

What if I do not have liability insurance?
As a Denver Options contractor, you are required to carry a minimum of $1,000,000 of liability insurance. If you do not have this insurance in place, we will not be able to put your contract in force but we can refer you to HPSO or Healthcare Providers Services Organization. They are an affordable option for purchasing the required liability insurance. You can reach them by calling 1-800-982-9491 or online at www.hpso.com.
May I waive the insurance requirement?
For non-therapeutic services provided to the Traumatic Brain Injury population, you may waive the insurance requirement if the client/clients that you provide services for will sign the appropriate waivers acknowledging that you do not carry the required levels of insurance by Denver Options.
How are your rates determined?
Denver Options determines the rates for our Early Intervention, CES and Supported Living Services Departments.
Traumatic Brain Injury providers determine their rate. If the rate does not fit within a reasonable range as determined by the state then you will be contacted by the TBI Project Coordinator.
How long does it take to become a provider?
For families and independent contractors, contract application turnaround can occur as fast as two weeks if you are responsive to the materials.
